Distinctive
The distinctiveness of the ECER refers to its
natural beauty, abundant resources and unique culture and
heritage known throughout the world. The region’s spectacular
beaches, lakes, islands and highlands are relatively untouched
by progress. Its eco-diversity and the fact that it is the
heartland of Malay cultural heritage are also
well-established. To maintain this character, sustainable
development is emphasised.
Dynamic
The
dynamism of the ECER reflects the need for growth and development at a faster
pace than the other more developed states and regions in
Malaysia. It also stresses the need for change in economic
orientation, structure, utilisation of technology and
mindset.
Competitive
The competitiveness of the ECER is
reflected in the need to attract local and foreign direct
investment and secure market share for its products in the
face of enhanced competition brought about by globalisation
and liberalisation of the world economy. To attain this, there is a
need to upgrade its “hard” physical infrastructure and the
institutional or “soft” infrastructure, especially with regard
to the quality of its working and living environment.
