Pahang, which covers an
area of 35,960 sq. km is the largest state in Peninsular
Malaysia. Geographically diverse, Pahang ranges
from mountainous country in its west to its coastline in
the east and comprises of 11 districts: Kuantan, Maran,
Pekan, Rompin, Termeloh, Jerantut, Bentong, Raub, Kuala
Lipis, Cameron Highlands and Bera.
It adjoins the South China Sea for a distance
of 208 kilometers. Terengganu and Kelantan bound the State
on the north, Perak in the west and Selangor and Negeri
Sembilan to the southwest. Johor forms the State's southern
boundary.
Kuantan is the state capital
where visitors can enjoy Teluk Chempedak beach and explore
tourist attractions in and around the town. Tioman Island,
off the southern coast of Pahang, is an excellent snorkeling
and scuba diving site. Another popular tourist spot, the
famous Cherating Beach, has several international-class
hotels, including Club Med Cherating.
Two thirds of Pahang state is covered with
rainforest, making it a haven for adventure and eco-holidays.
Pahang has several rainforest parks such as the Kenong
Rimba Park and part of the Endau Rompin Park. A large size
of Taman Negara (National Park) also lies within its border.
The famous Tasik Bera is the largest freshwater
swamp and wetland sanctuary in Peninsular Malaysia. Another
attraction in Pahang is Tasik Chini which is home to 138
species of territorial flora.
Pahang is well known for its highland resorts
- Cameron Highlands, Fraser's Hill, Bukit Tinggi Resort
and Genting Highlands, dubbed ‘City of Entertainment'
with its entertainment, theme parks, hotels, concerts and
golf course.
In Pahang, the visitor will find fascinating evidence of
the diverse Malaysian cultures, manifested in the customs,
clothes, food, art forms, games and festivals of the various
races.
Pahang has a rich cultural heritage and
its specialty is Tenun Pahang, a distinctive
hand-woven fabric. Travellers can visit the handicraft centres
at Teluk Chempedak, Sungai Karang and Cherating.
The state will also become ECER’s
automotive manufacturing, assembly and distribution
hub, as well as the development of design activities
with the support of educational institutions.
The Kuantan Port City
initiative will see the existing harbour facilities vastly
upgraded to pave the way for Kuantan to become an integrated
terminal and logistics hub for the petrochemical,
palm oil, automotive and container market, as well as a
major industrial and manufacturing zone.
The agriculture focus for Pahang is to develop and promote
pineapple-growing in Rompin, as well as
cattle breeding & research centre
in Muadzam Shah.
