Pahang

Pahang, which covers an area of 35,960 sq. km is the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia. Geographically diverse, Pahang ranges from mountainous country in its west to its coastline in the east and comprises of 11 districts: Kuantan, Maran, Pekan, Rompin, Termeloh, Jerantut, Bentong, Raub, Kuala Lipis, Cameron Highlands and Bera.

It adjoins the South China Sea for a distance of 208 kilometers. Terengganu and Kelantan bound the State on the north, Perak in the west and Selangor and Negeri Sembilan to the southwest. Johor forms the State's southern boundary.

Kuantan is the state capital where visitors can enjoy Teluk Chempedak beach and explore tourist attractions in and around the town. Tioman Island, off the southern coast of Pahang, is an excellent snorkeling and scuba diving site. Another popular tourist spot, the famous Cherating Beach, has several international-class hotels, including Club Med Cherating.

Two thirds of Pahang state is covered with rainforest, making it a haven for adventure and eco-holidays.  Pahang has several rainforest parks such as the Kenong Rimba Park and part of the Endau Rompin Park. A large size of Taman Negara (National Park) also lies within its border.

The famous Tasik Bera is the largest freshwater swamp and wetland sanctuary in Peninsular Malaysia. Another attraction in Pahang is Tasik Chini which is home to 138 species of territorial flora.

Pahang is well known for its highland resorts - Cameron Highlands, Fraser's Hill, Bukit Tinggi Resort and Genting Highlands, dubbed ‘City of Entertainment' with its entertainment, theme parks, hotels, concerts and golf course.

In Pahang, the visitor will find fascinating evidence of the diverse Malaysian cultures, manifested in the customs, clothes, food, art forms, games and festivals of the various races.

Pahang has a rich cultural heritage and its specialty is Tenun Pahang, a distinctive hand-woven fabric. Travellers can visit the handicraft centres at Teluk Chempedak, Sungai Karang and Cherating.

The state will also become ECER’s automotive manufacturing, assembly and distribution hub, as well as the development of design activities with the support of educational institutions.

The Kuantan Port City initiative will see the existing harbour facilities vastly upgraded to pave the way for Kuantan to become an integrated terminal and logistics hub for the petrochemical, palm oil, automotive and container market, as well as a major industrial and manufacturing zone.

The agriculture focus for Pahang is to develop and promote pineapple-growing in Rompin, as well as cattle breeding & research centre in Muadzam Shah.
