Tourism has been a major attraction to the East Coast and with the development of ECER, this sector is given a major boost. Over thirty tourism projects with an estimated investment value exceeding RM16 billion have been earmarked and over 40,000 new jobs to be created.

Tourism is also a catalyst to achieve several ECER targets such as – income generation, poverty eradication, new infrastructures, development of new destinations and attractions, and development of modern amenities.

Others benefits include:

  1. The improvement of public facilities and infrastructure can progress the quality of life for the locals as well as facilitate tourism.

  2. Preservation of the East Coast’s natural environment via conscious and deliberate policies, planning and management.

  3. Access to various education and training facilities that will provide skills development.

  4. To facilitate investments, government will provide incentives for private sectors for local community via incentives scheme plan

  5. Improved infrastructure that will increase land value within the vicinity of identified project areas. Land owners and local residents will surely benefit from increased value of their land.

With cultural tourism identified as a key sub-cluster, it strengthens efforts to promote and preserve the local culture and tradition, and the livelihood of those serving these traditional performing arts.
